In the rural Northern Ireland of the 1960s, sixteen-year-old Moira Mullins is newly released from her second stay in a mental institution. Her problem is that she can’t seem to escape the notice of the other-worldly inhabitants of the wild lands bordering her family’s farm. Creatures nobody else can see or hear.
When one of these beings, a fairy princess called the Maid of Ulster, offers to foretell the future, Moira jumps at the chance. But the Maid has ulterior motives that could have tragic results for Moira, who learns the future is sometimes better unknown.
A dark modern-day fairytale, this 14,000 word novelette (easily read in a couple of hours) is a prequel to Ms. McGary's debut release The Wild Sight.
The Sidhe Princess eBook Loucinda McGary
Vivid descriptions. Intriguing characters. Dark, Irish fairy-tale plot. Charming and believable brogue - er - dialogue. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!"The Sidhe Princess" is the story of young Moira who lives a dreary, hard existence on her family's isolated farm in Northern Ireland. But it is the "gifts" she possesses which get her into serious trouble, gifts of being able to see the "wee folk" who live just beyond the boundaries of her farm. Only her older sister believes her, but now she has left for America and Moira is left to face the wiles of the "little people" alone.
I absolutely loved this story! It gave me a feel for the magic and beauty of the Ireland of my ancestors, and I look forward to reading more of Ms. McGary's tales. It's only drawback is that it was too short, but I understand the story is taken up in the author's next book!

The Sidhe Princess eBook Loucinda McGary Reviews
I was quite captivated by the premise of the story and the setting, however I found a few issues with the way the author chose to write the narrative- some things were used in the narrative I'm assuming to strengthen the idea of the setting that I think would've been better suited to only be used in dialogue. I was interested to see how the story played out, but a part of me was rooting for the Sidhe the whole time. A good story and certainly worth the time invested in it, I feel it fell a little short on character development and there was no real surprise in the story, even at the end. It ended about how I suspected, and the final revelation wasn't much of a revelation at all.
The Sidhe Princess by Loucinda McGary had me at the beginning. I felt for 16 year-old Moira who spent years in a mental institution because of her gift of sight. I loved how McGary combined the real world with the fantasy world and the wicked Maid of Ulster was perfect. A short story with a lot compacted inside it, the pace was great and I especially enjoyed how a sight of the future made Moira determined to set her path right.
Reading The Sidhe Princess, I felt as if I were right there in Ireland, seeing through the main character's eyes, feeling the cold, misty air on her skin. This story takes the reader into the realm of faerie tales with dark and sinister things facing off against the pure and good heroine. Definitely it's a re-readable, many times over.
"The Sidhe Princess" by Loucinda McGary is an entertaining short story that's also a prequel to her fabulous novel THE WILD SIGHT. No one writes about Ireland's country and people better than McGary.
The story reveals the background of Moira, who's gifted with magical powers which have made her life miserable. She doesn't want to pass her "gifts" along to her daughter. An encounter with the chilling "Maid" makes her think she and her progeny can avoid fate.
I don't normally read short stories because I prefer more substance, but this story was very substantial. It had a great premise with good flow and was well written. I really enjoyed it. Thank you!
The Side Princess is a short novelette easily read in an hour. It takes place in rural Northern Ireland of the 1960s. Moira Mullins, 16 years old, has just been released from her second stay in a mental institution. Unlike her family, or most humans, she sees things we can't. In the wild lands bordering her family's farm, she meets a fairy princess called the Maid of Ulster. When this being offers to let Moira glimpse at the future, the girls says yes. Learning the future is much like eavesdropping. Nothing good comes from it.
The ending had my heart racing and filled me with a desire to read the next book in this series. Here's hoping Moira realizes what's happened and can fix it and Bran breaks free of the Maid of Ulster's hold.
What I enjoyed about this book was the use of the bargain with the fairies. I found that side of the book very well done. The heroine was well drawn and belivable; however, this is an introduction to a series so there are some loose ends. There are some really nice details - like the music.
It should be noted that the kindle edition I read ("purchased" in 2012. I picked it up when it was offered free) had some formatting issues
